I took several photo sequences of lighting the burner and selected the two most interesting flares for compositing with a shot of it fully lit. To get the flares, I experimented with letting the gas run a second or two before hitting the igniter. (Remember, kids: the gas stove is not a toy. Do this at your own risk!)
Shot in the dark with a 70mm macro at f/5.6 for at least some depth of field, 1/125s to prevent too much blur and ISO 6400 to make the other settings work (and it still had to be lifted a stop in post).
