Ad Astra [Explored]

Founded in 1919 by some of Switzerland's most famous aviation pioneers, Ad Astra Aero was one of Switzerland's first commercial airlines. In 1931, Ad Astra merged with Balair to form Switzerland's national airline, Swissair. 62 years later, in 1993, I started my career as a pilot with Swissair, which ceased operations in 2002. Part of its fleet and staff, including me, formed the core of the newly founded Swiss International Air Lines.

This image was taken during my Swiss International Air Lines flight to São Paulo and is the perfect fusion of my two passions - aviation and astronomy. Not only does it remind me of Swissair's last flight, SR145 from São Paulo to Zurich, the lights on the ground seemingly leading to the starry center of our home galaxy are also the perfect analogy for the pioneering airline Ad Astra, whose Latin name means "Towards the Stars".
