Rosenlaui

This beautiful Alpine valley with a torrential creek and a glacier framed by two prominent peaks, has attracted many famous 18th and 19th century landscape painters, like e.g. Joseph Anton Koch, Ferdinand Hodler, François Diday or Alexandre Calame.

It is therefore no surprise that the landscape looks epic. I don't know if those painters were stargazing at night, but if not, they certainly missed an awesome experience.

To complement the terrestrial beauty, Orion and the Winter Milky Way align perfectly over the valley. After realizing this, I knew that I had to pay the place a visit, and after the first snowfall in November, I finally had an opportunity to shoot the scene I had in mind.

The Alpine environment made this a difficult shooting. After a scary drive on a narrow, snow-covered road, the weather kept constantly changing. Clouds were passing through all night, sometimes blocking the sky or enshrouding the peaks. After discussing our options with benjaminbarakat , we decided to try another place, only to find that it was even worse. We turned around and I drove sketchy road once more. Facing the cold and hoping for a clear patch in the right moment, our persistence finally payed off.
