Tower of Jewels
Tower of Juwels is one of the common names of the Echium wildpretii, a biennial flowering plant that grows up to 3 m (10 ft) in height. Even if this alien looking plant appears quite different, it is a close relative to the well known forget-me-not.
The species Echium wildpretii is endemic to the Canary Islands and is found mainly in Las Cañadas del Teide. The Spanish name for this plant is tajinaste rojo.
During my visit of Tenerife with benjaminbarakat we found quite a few of these beautiful plants, which provide a nice splash of color in this otherwise rather barren volcanic landscape. Of course we couldn't resist to use them as foreground for our Milky Way nightscapes.
