Magnetic Light [Explored]

Before my homebound flight from San Francisco, I checked the aurora forecast. The predicted geomagnetic activity was low (Kp2) and therefore not very promising, but as our flight path crossed right through the aurora oval over the Hudson Bay, there still was a chance for some aurora display.

When we arrived in the zone, there were some surprisingly strong northern lights, clearly visible despite the very bright third quarter moon. What a welcome distraction from the otherwise long and tiresome night flight.
