Armageddon
During my day off in Athens yestarday, I drove to Cap Sounion to visit the Temple of Poseidon and relax at some of the beautiful beaches along the coastal road leading there.
In the afternoon thick smoke started to cover the sky, almost blocking out the glaring sun and drenching the landscape with eerie light. A gusting wind started blowing and the air smelled of burned wood, while flakes of ash covered my car.
It was clear that a bushfire was raging somewhere in the vincinity, but I only realized today how devastating those fires are, killing more than 50 people.
It is shocking that you can enjoy a beautiful day, unknowing that a few miles away disaster strikes and people are loosing the battle for their bare lifes...
My thoughts are with the victims and their families.
