Eclipse Corona

This is a 17 image composite of the total solar eclipse taken from Madras, Oregon. All exposures used were taken in short succession during totality and the diamond ring phase.

In addition to the impressive corona and some prominences, the structure of the moon is visible as well. This is possible due to earthshine: reflected sunlight from earth is illuminating the dark side of the moon.

Also visible are two stars: Bright Regulus is obvious in the lower left of the frame and 5th magnitude Nu Leonis is dimly visible on the upper right of the sun.

Canon EOS 6D - Exposures ranging from 1/4000th to 2sec @ ISO100

William Optics Megrez 88 APO Refractor: 500mm f/5.6

iOptron Cube Alt-Azimuth Mount

All processing in Photoshop.
