The Rift
Sometimes you have to live with less than optimum conditions...
While staying at Mexican Hat, I was stuck under cloudy skies, but my weather app forecasted a cloud break during the night. Despite my severe doubts and extremely strong winds, I got up at 11 p.m. and drove to the nearby Hat Rock. As I did not really believe that the clouds would disappear, I only carried minimal equipment.
While setting up, the clouds really started to split and I was able to capture the starry skies through a gap that nicely aligned with the rising Milky Way.
Despite some very obvious light pollution visible in the lower clouds, this area is extremely dark and, as I had not taken along my LED lights, I hat to push my camera to its limits to capture the foreground.
- Astro modified Canon EOS 6D
- Tamron SP 15-30mm f/2.8 @ 30mm
- iOptron SkyTracker
Foreground:
- 4 x 180s @ ISO6400
