Arching over the Arch

The core of Milky Way arching over Sunset Arch in Escalante Grand Staircase NM.

 

I captured this image during my recent camping trip to the US southwest. Just after finishing setting up my tent near the arch, I was soaked by a huge thunderstorm. Luckily, the tent kept me and my equipment dry.

 

When the rain finally stopped, a colorful rainbow developed (images will follow) and after nightfall, the clouds completely disappeared, opening the skies to the breathtaking display of the Milky Way rising over the arch.
