Wings of the Universe
Bisti Badlands Wilderness Area in New Mexico is one of the most incredible landscapes I ever visited.
Thanks to its remoteness, it has very dark skies that enabled me to capture the rising Milky Way behind one of its famous wing structures.
Framing this shot was not easy, as the wing sits on top of a small cliff, which surrounds it on three sides an thus limits the ground where you can set up a tripod.
Furthermore, I was exposed to very strong wind during this exposure. The tripods with my lights were tipped over twice by gusts and blown into the adjacent ravine. Luckily I was able to recover them in one piece.
The foreground was lit by Low Level Lighting (LLL) using 4 LED lights.
Astro-modified Canon EOS 6D
Samyang 24mm f/1.4
Foreground:
5 x 50s @ ISO1600 form a fixed tripod stacked with PS
Sky:
5 x 50s @ ISO 1600 tracked with an iOptron Skytracker stacked with fitswork4
