Dreamy Core

The Milky Way core is visible again, but I had to wait more than a month to capture it. When the weather finally cleared and the moon phase was right, I got up at 1 a.m. and drove 1,5 hours to a reasonably dark site with some nice looking mountains in the foreground.

When I finally arrived, some high cirrus clouds had moved in, blurring the brighter stars and washing out the colors. I nevertheless set up my equipment and spent a damp and cold night on a meadow in the middle of ankle deep cow dung. Fortunately, my persistence payed off and I was able to capture a few usable shots.

The huge yellow blotch is the Planet Saturn and the bright red nebula is Laguna Nebula (M8). The red dot slightly above it is Trifid Nebula (M20) and the red spots in the upper left corner of the image are Eagle Nebula (M16) and Omega Nebula (M17).
