Cruising North-Esterly
Cruizing over Poland on a north-easterly heading on the way to Moscow. Looking out of the left window shows Polaris, the north star.
It can easily be found by extending the rear stars of the big dipper 5 times.
In todays world navigation is made easy by technology, but for centuries, sailors were depending on the stars to find their ways.
I probablly belong to the last generation of pilots that had to learn astronavigation during their formation. An obsolete art, but it nevertheless was a privilege, as it gave me the knowledge to find my ways, not on earth anymore, but around the starry skies...
