Roads to the Universe
This is another image of my memorable night on Furka Pass.
Furka Pass, with an elevation of 2,429 metres (7,969 ft), is a high mountain pass in the Swiss Alps. It connects the mountainous heart of Switzerland with the Valais valley.
Furka Pass is one of the darkest spots in Switzerland and I therefore had to push my camera to its limits to capture a usable foreground. After experimenting quite a bit with ISO/exposure combinations, I found that my 7D mk ll has its sweet spot at ISO3200. In order to reduce noise I shot 5 images of 120s each.
For the sky I chose a different approach: In this image I tracked the sky with my iOptron Skytracker and shot 12 images of 45s @ ISO1600. Like this, I got less noise and better colors, while still recording perfectly round stars.
The ground and sky images were then stacked and processed separately.
Finally, I merged the two images into a vertical panorama.
Canon EOS 7D mk ll
Samyang 10mm f/2.8
Mount: iOptron Skytracker
Sky: 12 x 45s @ ISO1600 stacked in fitswork
Ground: 5 x 120s @ ISO3200
Thanks for all your faves and comments. They are highly appreciated.
