Winter Milky Way from FL350
Still improving on my skills to capture the stars from a flying aircraft...
This image was taken while crusing at 35'000 feet over northern Germany.
It shows the winter Milky Way in the constellations Canis Major, Monoceros, Orion, Gemini, Aries and Auriga.
To my surprise, several deep sky objects are visible in this 10s shot:
- Orion Nebula M42 (in Orions sword)
- Open Cluster M44 (near the upper left edge)
- Open Cluster M35 (in the middle between Pollux and Aldebaran)
- Rosetta Nebula NGC2244 (left of reddish Betelgeuse in Orion)
- Hints of Barnard's Loop and the nebulosity around Lambda Orionis
