Reprocessing Fun - End of the Blues
In 2015 I started with Milky Way photography. Although I already had some experience in astrophotography, the learning curve was pretty steep - not only in the field, but also behind the computer, while processing.
While my first attempts pleased me very much, I recently felt that maybe I could do better with my increased processing experience, So I reprocessed some of my early shots today.
While I expected some improvement, I never dreamt I could squeeze so much more out of images, I already considered good.
The collage above shows the after and before of these images. The colors appear now much more vivid and natural. The main reason is that I initially set the white balance of the sky way too blue. I later realized that Milky Way naturally has a quite brownish tone. Correcting this blue cast made the natural skyglow stand out much more prominently as well, which I consider very pleasing.
So I exchanged 4 of my first successful Milky Way images by the reprocessed ones. If you would like to revisit these images, I am happily providing the links for easier access:
