M33 - Triangulum Galaxy
The Triangulum galaxy is located at a distance of about 2.8 million light-years from earth in the constellation Triangulum.
With about half the diameter of Milky Way, it is the third-largest member of our Local Group of galaxies. Our Local Group consists of several dozen galaxies; our Milky Way, the Andromeda galaxy, the Triangulum galaxy and several smaller dwarf galaxies.
Andromeda and the Triangulum Galaxy are linked by streams of hydrogen gas and embedded stars. The two galaxies may have had a close interaction in the past and it looks as if they will do so again in about 2.5 billion years.
I probably won't be around to photograph this galactic encounter...
