Amsterdam in a Blue Streak
The expression "a blue streak" means to do something very fast, e.g., "to move like a blue streak" or "talk a blue streak". This certainly describes my life lately, and as a result I have fallen *way* behind on posting photos. It hasn't stopped me from taking photos though, and I do have quite a few to work through. However, quantity and quality sometimes don't go together and I've found myself in something of a creative rut of late. Can't seem to break through my compositional mental blocks. Also, my lucky streak with colorful clouds earlier in the year has sadly come to an end and my more recent shots have come with either too few or too many clouds. This shot did not require too much creativity in composition. Or rather, I like my fairly "standard" comp and didn't come away thinking there was anything that might have worked much better. (of course, that's probably not true, but basically, I'm not unhappy with this one).
From a very quick visit to the Netherlands I had a few hours to wander Amsterdam at night. Was trying to get to the highly photographed Leidse Gracht location (see Albert Dros for good examples from there), but got lost somewhere along the way. Eventually found a nice looking bridge and decided that would do. In between the many takes ruined by car lights, I managed to get this one with a boat going under the bridge. A 90s exposure and voila, le "streak"! Taken with Pentax K-1 and Pentax 24-70mm lens (no pixel shift used here due to the light streaking).
To all my good flickr friends who take the time to view and comment on my photos, I do apologize for my absence these past few weeks and hope I can get caught up over the next few weeks.
