Zabriskie in the Pink

The phrase "in the pink" has a rather more interesting origin than most people think. It is assumed to be associated with the "pink cheeks" of a healthy person. But according to this site: www.phrases.org.uk/meanings/in-the-pink.html there's no clear proof of that association. It's earliest origin seems to be associated with something of the 'highest quality', and it seems based on the period in question that the likely association comes from flowers (Dianthuses) popular at the time which were commonly referred to as "Pinks". Not many flowers growing at Zabriskie Point, but the pinks were plentiful at least for a few brief minutes. I've always liked this little wash that meanders through the 'badlands' type formations of Zabriskie. Zabriskie is quite a fascinating formation and just one of many cool features of Death Valley National Park.
