Aldeyjarfoss in Skjálfandafljót - North Iceland
Aldeyjarfoss waterfall is in Skjálfandafljót, situated in the north of Iceland at the northern part of the Sprengisandur Highland Road which means it is to be found within the Highlands of Iceland. Aldeyjarfoss is an unique 20 m high waterfall with it's dark basalt columns and symmetric flow, every photographers dream. The waterfall is quite different between summer and winter as it's much more contrast in the winter scene with the snow and ice partly covering the dark area of the basalt wall. To be able to visit Aldeyjarfoss in winter you need a native guide with a modified super jeep or snowmobile to reach the location. So it's for a reason you don't see many winter photos of Aldeyjarfoss. I shot this image on a photo tour I guided in north Iceland in february 2013. I'll be guiding a summer and fall tour to this location, and one or two tours next winter, so if you're interested you can check out available tours at my website or drop me an email with your request.
