Discover Iceland

An Ice palace deep inside the Vatnajökull ice cap in Iceland. Vatnajökull is the largest ice cap in Europe, around 3,100 km³ covering about 11% of Iceland, and constanly changing it's formation due to the melting of the glacier. This stunning ice cave was not easy to find, nor easy to enter (the story will remain in my head for now). Again... the guy inside the cave happens to be me.

Discover Magazine are publishing my ice cave photographs in the June issue along with an interview with the Icelandic glaciologist Helgi Björnsson, which recently published a masterpiece book about the glaciers in Iceland Jöklar á Íslandi

Feel free to browse my gallery or check out photography tours at my website www.skarpi.is

At last! For safety reasons I'll not recomment anyone to travel into the glaciers without local guiding. We have a recent tragic accident where a photographer died while exploring the glaciers. Never hike alone into the glaciers.
