IF ONE TWIN WAS THE OTHER (A sonnet - Number as Muses)

The sexiest of the group... have I to say

What shape have they? They are the strangest twins,

Always engaged in mating, night and day:

They never understood it is a sin.

Sometimes - two curled cats - they nap together

Gently; to have a sleep they share the bed.

They lay quiet side by side: their mutual tether

- an umbilical cord – a matted thread.

Even their mother does not know their sex

- Which one is male and which the female twin -

She tries to ask, and without end she checks

But they keep turning head on heels: they spin.

The eldest is too near the king to be suspected of

Sharing the darkest secret of a forbidden love.
