Seventeen Minutes

Focal length: 8"

Pinhole diameter: approx. 0.5mm

Paper negative: 7" x 5"

Exposure time: 17 mins

This was the first time I loaded the paper at the back of the camera instead of the wider setting half way down. I didn't really know what the difference would be in actuality and had hoped this would somehow capture more or less the whole door(!). I was trying to capture the shadows playing in the last light of the day.

But I think what I actually learnt most from this shot, after initial disappointment in the composition, is the camera's capacity to render textures so vividly. I think she will handle still life very well once I've mastered how to really handle the light. The level of detail in here is more than I ever hoped I could achieve, though the pinhole itself was created with this focal length in mind.
