On my last trip to India, I got a good bonus (hardship pay) that I wanted to do something nice with, so I bought my parents a new dishwasher. Unknowingly, I opened a massive can of worms...A new dishwasher wouldn't look good with an old fridge, so my parents bought a new fridge. Well, the microwave looks out of place, so a new microwave. Only thing left was the stove, which was about 5 years old...well why not go gas? With the stainless appliances, the old cupboards would look too old/rustic (solid oak,stained a little dark). So the cupboards needed painting. Might as well paint the walls too!
My nice gesture ended up costing my parents a lot more than the dishwasher was worth!
