Mary's Rock, Shenandoah National Park

Here's the view from atop Mary's Rock in Shenandoah National Park on a clear day in May. That tangle of roads is the Thornton Gap entrance to the park. I don't have any idea who those people in the photo were, but I liked them because they were quiet and non-disruptive :)

I had been wanting to do this 6-mile hike on the AT for a while and was thrilled to finally get a beautiful weekend for it a few weeks ago. Overall, I really enjoyed the hike. It's a nice combination of uphills and downhills, never too steep, with lots of pretty views along the way. The only thing I didn't love was all the people - including the two girls loudly discussing their periods and birth control for the whole 15 minutes we took in these views. That was pretty much the *last* thing I expected to hear about on top of a mountain in the middle of the woods! lol
