Autumn in Watkins Glen
Don't adjust your monitors! I really am sharing more than one photo this week. Hopefully it will be the start of a trend :)
A couple of weeks ago my husband and I took a week off to enjoy fall in the Finger Lakes region of New York. We really lucked out on timing as the leaves were just peaking when we arrived. It was also overcast most of the week, making it perfect for waterfall photos.
Our first stop was Watkins Glen, one of my favorite places ever. The gorges don't have a lot of trees down by the water, but I loved the colorful trail of leaves collecting on the stone walls. You'll notice the water is rather muddy looking. The Finger Lakes area has received an abundance of rain this fall (thanks in part to Hurricane Irene) making the flow of water through the gorges much heavier than when we visited in April a few years ago. It also caused some flooding problems for the region which thankfully were mostly cleaned up by the time we visited.
