The Angel Oak
Trying to catch up on my photos - I'm so far behind! This is one of my favorite shots from our trip to Charleston way back in April. This is the Angel Oak Tree, an enormous live oak tree named after it's previous owners Martha and Justin Angel. The tree is thought to be over 1500 years old. Much like the Grand Canyon, photos can't really convey the size of this enormous tree. I used the widest lens I have for this shot and I still couldn't get the whole tree in the photo. A person standing in front of the tree would stand about halfway up the trunk. I had to climb over that branch in the foreground because it's about knee-height. The Angel Oak is 65 feet tall and over 25 feet around the trunk... are you getting the picture? This tree is enormous and awesome. You can read more about it here: www.angeloaktree.org/
