Switzer Lake

In my never ending quest to find something new and different to photograph, I took a scouting trip out to Switzer Lake yesterday morning. I wasn't quite sure what to expect, but what I found was a beautiful clear lake nestled in between mountains covered in beautiful Fall foliage. As I approached the lake, I was enjoying the silence and taking in my surroundings when the sound of flapping wings startled me. I looked up just in time to see a bald eagle go gliding overhead. I've never seen a bald eagle in the wild before, so it was quite a thrill! Unfortunately I didn't get any photos because my camera was still in the bag. I ended up spotting the eagle 3 times before I left for the morning (twice from my car). I can't wait to go back and next time I'll have my camera ready!

I would have loved a few clouds in this shot, both to diffuse the strong, glaring sunshine and to break up the flat blue sky, but we can't always get what we want. You'll also notice that the water level is extremely low, exposing a good bit of mud and rock before the waterline. Despite the harsh, awful light in this shot I wanted to share it anyway, for the story and for the pretty foliage. The leaves have been lovely this year, but it's either been raining or glaringly sunny every day I've had a chance to take photos.
