Ginger

Some of my contacts may remember that my husband and I adopted a dog several months ago who ended up being a bad fit for us. Ultimately we ended up returning the dog to the SPCA (feeling awfully guilty), blaming ourselves and thinking maybe the dog thing wasn't for us *.

As time passed, we realized that the bad match wasn't our fault, and that we could still provide a good and loving home for a dog that was a better match for us. Two weeks ago, we visited a different (better managed) SPCA, where we found "Blueberry Muffin", aka Miss Muffin. We thought she was perfect for us immediately, but after the last debacle we were hesitant to rush into anything, so we decided to go home and think it over for a few days.

We went back the next day to pick her up and bring her home with us. Oh, and we immediately renamed her Ginger, because we couldn't call her Miss Muffin with a straight face!

The shot above is Ginger doing her best hound impression.

As with the last dog we adopted from the SPCA, Ginger has been pretty sick since we brought her home. We've been slowly nursing her back to health and I'm happy to report that she's feeling much better now than she was two weeks ago. She's a very sweet little girl, and really we couldn't ask for a more laid back dog.

Most of the time Ginger is content to just hang out in her crate (which, btw, she trained herself to use!). She's very friendly with people and other animals from what we've seen so far, but is pretty timid in new places. Despite living in our house for two weeks now, Ginger rarely ventures out of the living room into any other part of the house. Like any typical hound she loves to sniff anything and everything, but we have yet to hear her bark! I'm guessing one day she will bark out of the blue and scare us half to death :)

Ginger has been a joy to live with so far and we're looking forward to spending many more happy, cuddly years with her. (Right after we give her a bath, that is, because OMG does she stink right now! We haven't been able to give her a bath since we brought her home, but we'll finally be able to this weekend.)

* For those wondering, Asia, the dog we previously adopted, has been readopted - hopefully to another loving home that can better fit her needs than we could.
