Great Blue Heron
My last 4 photos have been sunrise photos, so time for something else. How about a Great Blue Heron? I've never had good luck photographing these beautiful birds. I usually end up accidentally scaring them off before I get close enough to photograph them. While I was at the lake last weekend, we took the boat out for a drive and found lots of herons. Have you ever tried to use a 400mm telephoto on a rocking boat to shoot something small and stationary, like a bird? No? Well, let me just tell you that it is nearly impossible! It was a struggle just to get the heron in the frame, let alone in focus and properly exposed. These shots aren't fantastic, but they were the best I could do. If you think these are bad, you should see the photos I tried to take of the osprey we saw!
