Fawn Hidden In The Meadow (Shenandoah National Park)
Friday morning, I was up at 4:15am in anticipation of a great day of photography in the national park. Instead, I got a morning full of frustration. The road through the park, Skyline Drive, is torn up in random sections for re-paving, making driving tedious. I tried to shoot the sunrise, which ended up hazy and rather unimpressive. On my way out of the park, I decided to stop by Big Meadows to get some fawn photos. You can usually see fawns in any direction you look at Big Meadows, but Friday morning there were none to be seen. After an hour of wandering around the meadow swatting at the flies and gnats buzzing around my head, I gave up and went home with only a few mediocre fawn photos.
Sunday, I decided to try again. Luckily, I ended up having a much better morning of photography. Here's a fawn I practically stepped on while walking around Big Meadows. The grass is so tall and the fawns are so little, you really can't see them until you're on top of them. I paused long enough to take this photo, then moved on before I could do something rash, like stuff the fawn in my pocket and take it home with me.
