Fall in the Valley (Shenandoah National Park)
The trees in Shenandoah National Park are almost entirely bare now, but the Fall color is creeping down the sides of the mountains, coloring the valley below. This was shot from one of the many overlooks on Skyline Drive, though I can't remember which one exactly. The peak in the distance is Massanutten Mountain.
Thanks in part to some advice from MumblyJoe (who is a great photographer by the way), I finally got myself a Cokin filter system and a 3-stop neutral density gradient filter. This was my first attempt at using it, and while I'm still getting used to it, I have to say I'm glad I got it. Without the ND grad filter, this photo would have had a featureless gray cloudy sky.
