35 and considered old…
One of my attempts at the "Looking Close... on Friday" theme "Monochromatic Bubble Bokeh" as well as the "Flickr Friday" theme "35".
When I first got ths little lens - the (Tomioka) "Copal E18C 35 mm F 4", I wasn't very impressed by it. I don't remember it clearly, but I assume I might have used it reversed without a tube lens, and the image quality just wasn't very convincing... I had a (Tomioka) "Tominon 35 mm F 4.5" lens already, which is considered a better alternative anyways, so I just put it aside.
When I recently measured a lot of the threads on my lenses, I took it out again and discovered that it has an 37.5 x 0.5 mm thread. That‘s a really unusual mounting thread but exactly the filter thread of all the other focal lengths in the same family of lenses, the (Tomioka) Copal/EXX(C)/Tominon-MC series. Because I already had a 37.5 x 0.5 mm lens hood I was able to just screw the tiny (reversed) E18C on top of the E90 105 mm lens and this time the lens surprised me in a very positive way.
You can see it in action here:
Glad I gave it a second chance!
Shot with a Kodak "Printing Ektar 72 mm F 4.5" (enlarging) lens on a Canon EOS R5.
