Red breasted nuthatch

A jittery species, in my experience, and one that I've had no luck capturing - perhaps because I mostly see them in very low light which doesn't lend itself to sharp pictures of such an active subject. He paused here for a moment before snatching a kernel and taking off. Many other species visited this log and I spent most of my time fending off a very fat black squirrel who would have sat there and polished off the lot, if I'd let him.
