Snowy owl
One of a dozen snowy owls down at Boundary Bay.
Surprisingly, the snowy owls are back this winter. I understood these eruptions only happened once every six years or so. They have arrived about two weeks earlier this year, so it will be interesting to see if we approach last year's numbers (about 25 in this immediate area).
Last year's crop were mostly right up against the dyke, whereas this year they are far out by the shoreline. As a result, I trudged across the marsh this morning for several hundred metres to get a little closer. What I didn't notice, in my enthusiasm to take some shots, was that the tide was rapidly coming in. By the time I took this picture, it was too late and I literally waded through waist deep water back to shore (my calf high boots were not up to the task, needless to say, nor the rest of my clothing).
