Northern harrier

Occasionally, a harrier will sit quietly and permit a close approach. This female was content to rest and preen on her perch, only looking in my direction if I made a noise or moved furtively closer. I'm not sure why I bothered - she knew exactly where I was and how close she'd allow me. I watched her for a half hour just after dawn, as she changed from a pinky hue to this more golden cast. Even other harriers flying overhead didn't perturb her.
