Bushmaster ACR with custom handguard
A friend was talking about how much he coveted a Bushmaster ACR and so I took a photo of mine. It is fitted with an M-LOK handguard I designed and which we intended to manufacture and market, but Remington-Bushmaster went bankrupt before we got very far with that.
At the time we had a very good relationship with Remington and they supplied us the necessary CAD models to design this handguard as well as an AR-15 stock adapter, a product category in which we specialize. The stock adapter model I designed and 3D printed broke into pieces years ago, so I refitted the factory “boot” stock. A factory configured ACR looked like this.
The future of the ACR under the new Bushmaster is uncertain, and in any case it will be a different rifle from the original, which was designed by Magpul, who I believe still own some of the ACR IP. So I don’t envision our developing a new handguard design in the future, unless maybe Bushmaster asked us to.
