Day 6 'Dealer's Choice'

Vayreqia Stories

The footsteps seemed distant and close at the same time. Almost as if they were muffled but the soft shuffle and tear of grass could be heard. “Maira? Oh, there you are. Sunning like a lazy cat, should have known this is where you were. Did you enjoy your nap?” The sense of someone nearby was just barely there, not quite blocking the light. Though at the rest of the sentence it seemed muffled as if from another side of the wall, the name rang clear and sharp. The thump of someone sitting down next to her caused her eyes to flicker open and in a mumbled sleepy voice she would respond.

“What did you call me?” Her eyes squinted and looked up at the shaded blurred figure and strained to make out details.

“Uh… Your name.” The man chuckled. “Must have been a deep sleep, huh?”

“But that is the name my parents were going to give me…” There was a pause, long enough for her to start making out the details of a very confused but otherwise handsome and well dressed man who had knelt beside her.

“Y-yes.. The name they gave you. My love, are you alright?” Lita blankly stared at the individual, no recognition upon her face. She pushed herself to a sitting position and then moved to shuffle back away from him a bit. “Maira, stop playing with me. I don’t like this.”

“My name is not Maira.” She raised her hand to brush her hair from her face, then it struck her… her hair was much longer and then the distinct absence of something struck her even harder. Both of her hands shot to her head and felt around her brow. “Wh-?!?” Her horns were gone… “WHAT DID YOU DO?!?” She flailed to her feet, nearly falling off balance and then noticing her tail was gone… as she looked at her hands, her claws… the markings all gone.

“Did you hit your head? Are you alright?” The man had genuine concern written across his face, reaching for her to help her steady herself. Though she’d recoil and trip to the ground shuffling away from him a bit further. There was no pain to be felt, nor a wound or scar but she could not help but search for her tail and horns. Then a long pause followed as she stared at him then ran her tongue over her perfectly normal human teeth.

.

“I’m… human?”

The pure concern creeped into his features even as he tried to remain calm and force a grin. “Okay, yes? I believe you are human… Hopefully you’ve passed that human down to our children and not the crazy you are doing right now.” It was then the ‘act’ he thought she was pulling got frightening. The surprise and shock that was shown when he said they had children was too real.

“I… have kids?”

“Okay, let us go home and call the healer...”
