GAIA

Gaia or Gaea, known as Earth or Mother Earth. She was an early earth goddess and it is written that Gaia was born from Chaos, the great void of emptiness within the universe, and with her came Eros. She gave birth to Pontus (the Sea) and Uranus (the Sky). This was achieved parthenogenetically (without male intervention).

Other versions say that Gaia had as siblings Tartarus (the lowest part of the earth, below Hades itself) and Eros, and without a mate, gave birth to Uranus (Sky), Ourea (Mountains) and Pontus (Sea).

 

I created the headdress from scratch, Nic and i collected discarded branches and hoisted them from the beams in the studio. I arranged the seed pods from one of our trees to add some interest into the branches and also to accentuate the matter of fertility with the earth goddess.

Anmire was photographed in my studio with the headdress aligned as close to her head possible. Although i love composite work and Photoshop, i have learned that in order to obtain a more realistic final product it better to photograph as much 'in-house' as possible.

 

Anmire is a local young lady who resides in Holland. She is here on a visit and i have done some images of her for a new portfolio.
