Orange Almond Blueberry Muffin
For $3 I found this muffin a little pricey for the small size (granted, it's about the same size as the cupcake - but a cupcake has the butter cream frosting). Again, moist and dense (a little too moist and a little too dense for a muffin IMHO), where the fresh blueberries maintained their integrity but didn't do too much to add to the enjoyment of the baked good. I found the almond streusel on the wet side (I think it would have worked better if the muffin was either larger and/or the topping was more chunky). The bits of nuts just kind of sat and hung out on the surface of the muffin. They looked pretty, but were pretty much useless. Otherwise, it felt like trying to do too much in such a small item. I appreciated the addition of fragrant orange (was it orange juice or orange oil? no bits of rind were found) and did like the concept of the three key ingredients more so than the final execution. This muffin might have worked better for me if perhaps the almonds were incorporated as flakes/slivers in the batter.
