The Destination Diners Speak
Opinionated About Dining's Fine Dining Survey.
The new guide is out and two Toronto restaurants made the cut (Splendido and Susur). Of them, Splendido made it to the "Worth Planning a Trip Around" level (I thought that food enthusiasts would say that about Eigensinn Farm because you literally have to plan a trip to go there, but it didn't make the list). I'm not sure if I'm biased here, as Splendido is my favourite fine dining establishment in Toronto, but I'm glad that they made the top cut. However I'm not sure if it would be a restaurant I'd wholeheartedly recommend people to just fly into the city to try. French Laundry, El Bulli (have yet to fly in for that), Alinea (although I'd recommend visiting GE Bowles in whatever arena he chooses to cook at) - I'd understand, but I would hesitate to put Splendido up there (although I do <3 you Chef Lee!), maybe more as a place that's an "important local choice" or "worth going out of your way for." Either way, I'm proud to say our city made it to the guide and with a fine player none-the-less.
The most amusing find for me was the fact that I could pick out three quotes of mine that made it into this guide (which didn't have this feature in the first volume/issue). :) I'm such a nerd, yes.

I'd add Ristorante dal Pescatore to the list above but it didn't have enough votes (maybe?) to make it to the guide this year, and Fat Duck (of which I'd still have to post up the meal!).
Update: Check out the most overrated dining list here: www.opinionatedabout.com/overrated/overratedlistall.html
