Troubled Bridge - Bay Bridge Eastern Span

A view of the new eastern span of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge. Elegant, beautiful, distinctive, and different are some of the words that came to mind when I set up to take this shot. The single-towered self-anchored suspension bridge is a daring design that had never been tried before on such a scale. And, the problems have been many, such as broken rods, leaks in the steel structure, cracked welds, misaligned road decks, to name a few. With all things considered I find the new bridge to be wonderful and quite aesthetically pleasing.

I took this shot from the roof of a building at the Coast Guard Station at the top of Yerba Buena Island. Access to the roof was quite easy. You just walk right onto the roof from the side of the road. No one was around when I arrived and while I was shooting. After I finished and was sitting in my car looking at the shots on my camera a person in uniform drove up and told me that I wasn't suppose to be there and to leave immediately. Just thought I would throw this tidbit in for anyone that is considering photographing from this spot.
