First Descent : Update ~ Outdoor Photographer
Just as I was getting off work today I learned that this image will be published in the May issue of Outdoor Photographer as the "Last Frame" of the issue where they showcase an image that expresses humor or uniqueness in nature. Because this will be used as the last frame image there will be a small write up and a link to my website instead of the usual credit only on the side of the image. This is pretty cool and it looks like OP is buying me some new gear! :) Thanks guys!
I was up at Lower Lewis River falls today when I overheard a gentleman say..."See, we are going over right there" . When I asked what he meant, he said he and his friend were going on a "first descent". He explained they were going to be the first ones to go over this falls in a raft! This is not a small falls, and that is a 14' foot raft. I had to stay around to catch the action. Before I go any further, let me just say that both men survived. Did they make it over successfully, without any trouble or without scaring their family to death? No. The raft turned sideways at the top of the 50 foot falls and that's how they went over...sideways. Oh yeah, they also flipped over and slammed into the water below upside down. Then there was the little 30 minute adventure where one of the men had to be rescued by his friends because the eddy had pushed him under and beneath the falls. It was a pretty dramatic situation and I got one thing to say... thanks for the photograph! :)
