To the beloved memory of Richard Lano Pearce son of Benjamin and Mary Pearce who died on the 10th day of January 1864 aged 22 years.

This tombstone is erected by his fellow volunteers his was the first death amongst the members of the Dorset Volunteer Corps. he died after a few days illness
