2014 Review
Happy New Year everyone!
It's been a crazy year with some super highs and super lows, and throughout it all the one good constant was all the wonderful people I've meet in the community both online and in person. If the one thing that away from this year is the great memories of hanging out with people - from parts drafts, 4am hotdogs, pizza parties, alt builds, sleeping under tables, moonbase history lessons, team classic-space pool matches, to 4am Slave 1 OMG we gotta get this done tomorrow builds....
Year started out with a bang with me taking up the mantle of a Brothers Brick, which was a huge step up to Lemur assistant.
While looking back it didn't seem like I built as much as I have in the past: 2012 and 2013, my numbers are definitely down, and the average size is WAY down... and normally I'm surprised how much I built in these recaps... but this year I'm surprised at how little I have...
BUT ... that's also because I realize I spent a lot of time on a few important projects to me (and I've quasi scaled images to effort):
GARCs - Galactic Asteroid Rally Circuit, originally conceived by TR, Jacob and I miniaturized it can concocted a crazy plan to have a 4 stop race - with a display at Brickworld, Brickfete (Toronto), BrickFair VA, and BrickCon Seattle (yes, we planned it from the get go LOL). With Josh, Andrew and Chris - we rounded out the race coordinators and was a year long adventure (and yes I'll start returning the mailed in GARCs in the new year).
My big, and I mean big, personal project was the UCS NightLight Benny Galaxy Explorer - which all started by a gift of a Benny Night Light. the whole layout was roughly 4.5 feet long and fits in a convenient 5 boxes!
And of course with conventions comes collabs, and a decent slab for BroLUG's CyberDocks, despite me never really getting the apoc aesthetic, I did what I could, despite some horrible instructions on Carter on table heights, we made do (tape solves all). interesting side note, I was the only one to finish my portion of the layout for Brickworld :P
And of course with Brickworld, there's always the EB build, which I added some interesting sci-fi greeb-buildings for filler.
As we roll down in the year, we hit SHIPtember - which has grown above my wildest dreams, unfortunately there was a problem with getting the bricks done (5 month and STILL waiting! - so trophies are also incomplete - sorry guys). And this year I tried a very different approach at my SHIP, and really just went and tried new things to see what worked, and I really thought I got a lot of good help and turned out great.
Last major con of the year was of course BrickCon, which I think was pretty damn fun this year, and I got to hang out with a lot of cool people and participate in fun Invasion with my Eyes and EyePod, and in a rare treat Isaac and Rob came up for the trip too!
And while it's not over, the year ends off with the ChibiContest which has been hatching in my brain for awhile, some of the builds are just hilariously awesome and well worth checking out!
Hopefully next year will be even better! and bigger (well maybe more better builds, not bigger builds... except for BW collab contributions). And already have a few great challenges and contests in my brain :D
Quick stats:
Conventions attended: 5
Awards won: a few
Contests won: zero
Alien Eyes produced: 1,000
Gift-builds given out: not enough
Inches grown: 0"
Hopefully everyone's 2015 will be even better!
[Note: Mel built UberKitty and AstroKitty's face but I think they look cute together, and totally not because this is the only good picture I had of them]
