Beauty from Ashes

This image was taken as a fire was consuming over 31,000 acres or 125 square kilometers, just a few miles away, causing smoke to fill the surrounding forests. The smoke, however, created these wonderful crepuscular rays along the forest floor during the golden hour.

This area, Dogwood, is located in the San Bernardino National Forest, California, in a densely wooded forest with tall conifers and lush undergrowth. It burns hot and fast. All totaled the "Lake Fire", as it was named, cost an estimated $39.5 million in damage and took over three weeks to extinguish.
