365 Day 315*
I was checking out this guy tonight while browsing photos on the internet.
Check him out. I don’t know the guy. I’ve never spoken a word to him. He understandably gets a ton of attention and comments because his stuff is fucking incredible.
As digging through his stream, he sometimes posts a “set-up” shot of the previously posted masterpiece.
But I couldn’t help but think that I don’t have shit for equipment. This fucking guy has umbrellas and strobes and lenses coming out of his colon and cameras for every day of the week. Holy fucking equipment. Fuck-damn no wonder his shit looks so amazing!
Right?
Not to take away from the material he produces. It’s spot-on fucking A+ excellent. He takes 100% perfect advantage of the gear he has.
But I got to thinking about me and my photography “gear”, if you want to call it that. I don’t even know how a flash works, have zero understanding of f-stops and other photography terms. And shit, I can barely figure out the level on my stupid tripod.
And I got to looking at this very shot I’m posting right now. It was very simple. There wasn’t much of a “set-up” except for trying to sit still while the long exposure did its thing that night.
I guess my point is I think my stuff would be a lot better if I had the money to invest in the proper equipment to make it look better.
I’m kind of jealous of above mentioned dude. Fuckin’ guy!
The shot at hand? Well I know I had to bang my daily shot out, so I took a nightly walk with my kid. I liked the way the light hit the bench. I furthermore liked the way my shadow shown against the wall. And lastly I was partial to all the leaves on the ground as it gave the shot some substance.
The album at hand? These guys practically invented the genre known as shoegazing. This is one of the most compelling and important debut albums of all-time. The songs are raw and full of energy. It sounds like the entire album was recorded in a fucking metal box as the lyrics and sound simply echoes from beginning to end. Sonic freaking brilliance man.
