Sh2-155 The Cave Nebula, Cepheus

"It's something..."

With hours of astro-twilight fading fast, experimentation was the mood of the moment a few weeks ago.

Transpires, wiggling Suzi's secondary mirror makes collimation actually possible - who knew?

MiniPC died a soggy death back in Storm Éowyn so swapped back from NINA to Astroberry on a Pi.4. Feels good to be back, even if guiding configs go to pot faster than a fast thing - I never used PHD2 on astroberry before but now I'm more familiar with it thanks to NINA than astroberry's own built-in guiding.

Tried the Altair Quadband filter for the first time in many years. Probably full-moon was not the wisest of choices. Last time I used it was with one of the refractors and the red internal reflection star haloes were like an octopus with measles, so this is considerably less bad. However, DBXtract doesn't seem to separate Sii and Ha off the same frame, so it's no substitute for doing it properly.

Sh2-155 aka The Cave, 8.5hr data, PI (GX, NX, BX, SX) and Affinity (considerable painting effort on the nebulosity layer, inpainting-out the lurid blue halos, levels, curves, etc).

It's a far cry from how I last handled that target, and not an effort I want to repeat any time soon, but at least it's new data this year and now I'm a bit more ready for next season, whenever it comes around.
