"Cek Ada, Tunai Ada; Cek Tak Ada, Tunai Pun Ada"
Literal translation:
"Got cheque, got cash;
No cheque, still got cash."
This is a shot of a door plastered with flyers and advertisements from ah longs (or rather, illegal "moneylenders") in Petaling Jaya. This is located next to a clinic I visit frequently. I find it amusing that these "moneylenders" resort to pasting flyers all over the place (you can find them even on streetlight posts in some parts of PJ/KL); but at the same time, its really ugly as well. Customers of these "moneylenders" are basically hawker stall owners/ entrepreneurs/ people who own their own businesses, but do not have the necessary documentation to obtain a bank loan (or other "legal" alternative). Borrowing money from these "moneylenders" is the fast way out, but a very, very painful way. Interest rates are crazy, and if you don't pay up on time, they do things to you (and your family). [ Think Hong Kong drama series which involve these sort of "ah longs".] I've read newspaper articles reporting loss of limbs, arson, even the kidnapping/killing of the borrower and his/her family/loved ones. It's sad.
