Hand of an Angel
Do you have a citizen patrol group in your city called the "Guardian Angels?" We do.
I first interviewed Curtis Sliwa, the originator of the Guardian Angels, way back in 1982.
I found his concept of crime-fighting intriguing, and I was interested enough to join the Angels, but it never happened.
Till yesterday.
I met with the local Angels on the invite of my son's friend, Marco (his hand in the image), and have decided to assist the group with fund-raising and promotion.
I took a little training in self-defense from the chapter president, Dave; it felt strange at first, but I soon got the idea. I knew I had instilled something in my brain, because as I was leaving and Dave moved towards me to shake my hand, adrenaline shot up my arms, and I had to struggle to keep them from flying into a defensive position. Made me laugh.
The Angels were largely misunderstood in their earler days as vigilantes or wackos. But police and other security officials now accept them and their non-aggressive presence in cities like New York and New Orleans.
(The pinkish bokeh? Training mats.)
