A male great white shark (Carcharodon carcharias) splashes through the surface after a partial breach.
White sharks are ambush predators and rely on surprising prey from below. When they charge toward a prey item, the momentum often takes them completely out of the water. In this photo the shark was going after a chunk of yellowfin tuna, a natural prey item for the shark, that had been thrown out into the water by dive operators, but he ended up getting some bits of seaweed, instead.
